The scout group of Novoli was born on 13th January 1975 under the name of A.G.E.S.C.I. (Associazione Guide e Scoutt Cattolici Italiani).
It has been working since then in Novoli according to the values and methods of Scouting, conceived and founded from the English Robert Baden Powell.
Therefore, it is a local association, with a history and a tradition full of activities (in national and international fields) for young people and society. This does not emerge only from the history and culture of the group, but also from the large number of novolesi children and neighbouring villages that have lived different experiences associated with it for long.
The first summer scout camp took place in the “Frassanito” pine forest (Otranto) in August 1975.
In 1976 girls were also able to take part in the scout group. They formed the first group of Girl Scout and Rangers.
In August of the same year the Rovers joined in a labour camp in Friuli organized by the “AGESCI” in order to provide relief to people affected by a disastrous earthquake.
In the summer of 1983, Explorers and Guides took part in the First Explorers and Guides National Camp organized by the “AGESCI” in Umbria.
The following year the international activities started. From 22nd July to 13th August the novolesi scouts flew to Texas (the United States of America) and they joined in an International Camp organized by the “Boy Scouts of America” in Houston. The same experience in Texas was repeated 10 years later in 1994.
